Error 1603 Installing Backup And Sync

On the Windows desktop, double-click My Computer. The My Computer window appears. Right-click the drive that you want to install the Windows Installer package to, and then click Properties. Click the Security tab. On the Security tab, do the following: If you are using Microsoft Windows 2000, verify that the Name box contains the SYSTEM user account.

This is on a desktop PC running Windows 10 updated to latest.

I get 'the installer encountered error 1603: fatal error during installation' when I try to install google backup and sync. I've googled around for awhile and it seems like a long time ago someone had a similar problem and fixed it by uninstalling the old version of google drive.

I used to have google drive installed on this machine, but I don't see it in my programs list and running this utility: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17588/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed didn't help anything.

Any ideas?

Thanks:)

Got this error while installing google backup & sync (googleDrive), searched everything on google & microsoft forum but nothing helped

finally found https://appuals.com/fix-the-feature-you-are-trying-to-use-in-on-a-network-resource-that-is-unavailable/ which resolved the problem

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Classes > Installer -> Products -> Search for a folder which has a key with 'ProductName'=Google Drive (i.e. earlier version). this reg key was creating problem. Deleted the complete folder from the registry and the installation was successful.

Wanted to share this in earlier posts for the error but all are locked, hence creating a new post.

for reference: Below solutions didn't work
